Perth IoT Community

Our human ecosystem of IoT enthusiasts, business managers, academics, tech experts.

Internet of Things

We're about the mindset and skillset required to achieve the opportunities ahead of us. We bring together community, government, industry and academia to learn, share ideas and progress IoT through community experiential projects and learning events.

IoT Projects
Our Perth IoT Communications Network project launched 31 May 2017 will deliver free IoT connectivity as well as training workshops run by the community for the community.

We want to make it easy for people to connect devices to the Internet for the purpose of innovating, learning and demonstrating what is possible with IoT.

By enabling anyone to learn, with hands on experience, we are preparing Perth with a skill set and mindset needed for the future.

In 2018 we brought the City of Perth on the smart city journey and collaborated to build an IoT Data sharing platform.

In 2019 we launched IoT Certifications that are ISO/ANSI accredited so our community can skill up and be globally recognised for the IoT and IoT Security skills.

In 2020 we contributed to the Australian federal governments voluntary code of conduct for securing IoT, and contributed through working groups to inform the WA state government infrastructure strategy.

Event Sponsorship

We manage Internet of Things Communities in Perth and Melbourne and run events within our ecosystem of purpose driven people and services.

We exist to connect enterprise, government, academia and start-ups around the emerging technology topics of Internet of Everything (IoT, Telecommunications, Cloud, Big Data, Data Science, Cognitive Machines, AI, Data driven digital business processes, and most importantly the social and cultural people impact).

We welcome product and service vendors to sponsor our events with informative on-topic presentations, venue provision and catering.

We aim to keep meetups in the CBD from a convenience perspective and focus fore-most on creating an welcoming collaborative environment for professional business networking and informative learning.

Virtual meetups are also possible for exceptional circumstances.

Sponsorship works on a per-meetup basis. This keeps every event unique an unbiased. As a sponsor you get the opportunity to present for about an hour to a room of IoT and Data Analytic enthusiasts from all industries and seniority levels.

Costs of venue hire and catering is settled by the sponsor with the venue and catering providers directly. This allows the community to operate and host free events without the overhead of insurances, and banking.

In a nutshell you bring the insight, we bring the audience.

Presentations should be informative rather than sales pitches. Product demonstrations and case studies are great.

Please see the instructions for presenters for more information.

Contact meetup@perthiot.com if you are interested in sponsoring.

Thanks you for your interest.

Perth IoT Community Presentation Guide

As we are a vendor agnostic community it is important that vendor presenters focus their topics and message on the IoT opportunity, case studies, or ideas. So although we recognise you have something to sell this is not an opportunity to play out your infomercial.

Feel free to welcome the audience to come and see you afterwards for more information on how your product or company can assist.

As a guide we draw inspiration from the way TED talks are structured and delivered. Below are 10 commandments on Ted Talks:

Thou Shalt Not Simply Trot Out thy Usual Shtick

Thou Shalt Dream a Great Dream, or Show Forth a Wondrous New Thing, Or Share Something Thou Hast Never Shared Before

Thou Shalt Reveal thy Curiosity and Thy Passion

Thou Shalt Tell a Story

Thou Shalt Freely Comment on the Utterances of Other Speakers for the Skae of Blessed Connection and Exquisite Controversy

Thou Shalt Not Flaunt thine Ego. Be Thou Vulnerable. Speak of thy Failure as well as thy Success.

Thou Shalt Not Sell from the Stage: Neither thy Company, thy Goods, thy Writings, nor thy Desperate need for Funding; Lest Thou be Cast Aside into Outer Darkness.

Thou Shalt Remember all the while: Laughter is Good.

Thou Shalt Not Read thy Speech.

Thou Shalt Not Steal the Time of Them that Follow Thee
